The Creation Of Primary Schools in Western Nepal

“The future of any society depends on its ability to foster the health and well-being of the next generation … When we invest wisely in children and families, the next generation will pay that back through a lifetime of productivity and responsible citizenship. When we fail to provide children with what they need to build a strong foundation for healthy and productive lives, we put our future prosperity at risk.” - Center for the Developing Child at Harvard University.

Dubai Cares and the GIVE Initiative have teamed up to adopt a specific program designed to help children go to school in one or more areas of Nepal. The various contributions from all Innoventures Education schools will go towards contructing and supporting educational institutions in these impoverished areas. Our students will visit these areas periodically to help with construction and report on the progress.

On December 1, 2015, the GIVE Initiative, thanks to all your contributions, signed to sponsor the creation of two primary schools in Nepal. Here is some information of the region we will help and its people.

Nepal – The Western Therai

In the Far Western Region of Nepal, the indigenous Tharu population continues to suffer from the effects of ethnic conflict and forced slavery. Inequitable access to education, unfair land agreements, and racial discrimination have all led to the plight of the Tharu people, who are just over a decade removed from a bonded labor system that was characterized by generations of oppression. Literacy among rural Tharu populations is well below Nepal’s national average, and more than 60% of Tharu people live below the poverty line.
